TakingITGlobal is proud to present Treadlightly.me, an interdisciplinary education and engagement resource developed to help secondary school students learn about climate change through the lens of ecological footprints. The Tread Lightly site will allow you to calculate your impact on the planet, compare your footprint to others around the world, and help you to become more green through the 40 Day Challenge!

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Violence against women happens everywhere and can be discrete, overt, or even go unpunished. To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, take a stand and say no to violence of any form. Explore more on the issue on the United Nations Secretary-General’s Campaign to End Violence Against Women and the UN Secretary-General’s database on violence against women. World AIDS Day

December 1st is recognized all over the world as World AIDS Day, and is a day to focus and reflect on the AIDS epidemic and the effects felt internationally. HIV/AIDS is one of the greatest challenges currently faced by humanity, and youth are increasingly becoming the face of the epidemic. They are the children orphaned by AIDS, the AIDS activists struggling for change and increasingly AIDS sufferers themselves, as youth represent almost one-third of people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. That is why youth involvement, action and perspective on the HIV/AIDS epidemic is so vital.

Volunteer for the Planet

Volunteering for our Planet is a UNV program tracking international voluntary efforts on environmental issues. If you have volunteered for the planet or plan on doing so before December 5th, you can contribute your hours to send a message to the delegates of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen that people around the world are taking concrete action to fight climate change.

Put an End to Violence Against Women

November 25th is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Violence against women happens in all countries, cultures, and communities around the world. It happens to women of all cultures, backgrounds and classes. This UN sanctioned and internationally observed day recognizes that we must first acknowledge this pervasive problem and confront it, before we can ever hope to put an end to it. On November 25th devote some time to recognizing the importance of the women in your life.

COP15

From the 7th the 18th of December 2009 the 15th UN Conference of Parties or COP15 will bring representatives from 192 countries together to set climate policy for our future. UN Climate Scientists have set 350 parts per million of carbon as the threshhold for a stable climate. What does COP15 mean for you? How are you organizing around climate change in your community? Discuss with TIG members in our discussion forums and check out the Countdown to Copenhagen blog.

Imprints

The Imprints art contest invites you to exercise your creativity and share your reflections about humanity’s current ecological footprint or what it should be in order to guarantee a sustainable common future. Selected submissions will be displayed at the COP15 UN Climate Conference, plus you could win one of our sustainable prizes including a folding aluminium bicycle and a digital camera.
